Every day, a man drinks copious amounts of coffee, reads a wide variety of materials... and broods.
Below are some things he found interesting this past week.
The Good Life, According to Gen Z
I can sit in my kitchen and make bread, and life just feels so much simpler. We have chickens... I get to stay home with my dog all day. I get to see my mom several times a week, and spend time with my grandma.
— Zosha Lyons
Opportunities for the good life in the middle of America exist. Mindset is the key to finding them.
Speaking of mindset...
Expectations
... expectations are a story we tell ourselves, and that story is up to us.
— Seth Godin
Kurt Vonnegut’s corollary: “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be.”
Listen to your narratives. Adjust as necessary for your well-being.
Donald Trump Is A Socialist
The thing about socialism is, it stays socialism—whether you like socialism or dislike it. It is a word that means something, and what it means isn’t every dumb thing you don’t like...
— Kevin D. Williamson
Words.
They matter.
Williamson makes some excellent points. If you don't believe this proves the reality of our complex Bizarro World ... then I can't help you.
Congress Should Remember LLCs When Extending the TCJA
The TCJA expiration would result in a tax environment that recognizes the value of corporations, but forgets the little guy.
— LyLena Estabine
The title of the article should be "Congress Should Remember Small Businesses When Extending the TCJA."
The "TCJA" is the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.
The mainstream media refers to the legislation in its entirety as "Billionaire Tax Cuts"... which is an oversimplification... which is what they do.
Small businesses are depending on the extension of one particular deduction. Elimination would hurt small business.
This may be why some voters, especially living in "Blue Wall" places with state income taxes, held their nose and voted the way they did.
If you voted in the 2024 elections and didn't hold your nose no matter which way you voted, then you must enjoy the smell of horse feces.
Robert Prevost's LinkedIn Journey
Congrats!
Making fun of the current state of LinkedIn produces for me a large dose of glee.
Seriously… best wishes to Pope Leo XIV. The Roman Catholic Church has a multitude of problems in need of solutions. Here’s hoping the new Pontiff can accomplish that which his predecessors either would not or would not.
(P.S. Do yourself a favor and follow Cultural Offering.
Until next week.
